My name is Evyn Moon. I am a multimedia journalist for WUFT News at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications.
I study Telecommunication on the News track, combining broadcast journalism with production and web media. I am currently a general assignment MMJ for WUFT-TV First at Five, and wuft.org, a main anchor for WUFT-TV First at Five, and part of WUFT-TV First at Five 5 production team. I have also held positions as an anchor/reporter for WUFT-TV Super 90 Newscasts, an anchor/producer for NPR’s Morning Edition on 89.1 WUFT-FM, and as an anchor for WUFT News In 90. I am involved in the production aspects of WUFT as well, currently one of the Technical Directors for the First at Five newscast.
In Summer 2016, I interned at WSB Channel 2 News in Atlanta, GA. Not only was I able to shadow reporters, producers, editors, etc., I was able to create her own content by writing scripts, editing packages, writing web stories, and much more. At 16, I was enrolled in Hillsborough Community College where I took only dual enrollment courses, graduating high school having almost completed her AA degree.
I have a passion for journalistic storytelling, and especially enjoys politics. At the University of Florida, I am minoring in Political Science, and have used that degree to cover much of the 2016 election for WUFT. Just a few weeks ago, I was sent out to Washington, D.C. to cover the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, including covering Trump being sworn into office and the protests outside of the Mall. I then stayed the following day to cover the National Women’s March where more than 500,000 men, women and children marched the Mall in protest of the newly elected president. This was an amazing experience for someone interested in news and politics.
Currently, I enjoy UF student involvement and improving my skills as often as possible. Eager and determined, I hopes to continue my work by finding a reporter job in a bigger market after graduating in 2017.
